It seems the vegetarian community is trying to make the stance that the only way to tread lighter in this world, hence, 'Live Green', is to be vegetarian - or vegan better yet. ALthough I think some of their arguments are valid, this is certainly not the end-all, be-all solution. And, for the kicker, I AM a vegetarian. However, I see the impetuous rants from my own community - a community that is suffering far and wide from malnutrition and lack of understanding about Green Living. For instance, this is a community that relies heavy on Corn, Soy and Wheat - three things largely subsidized by the government. Therefore, many of these crops are produced by GMOs, spayed with heavy toxic chemicals and fertilizers to grow them quicker (to supply the demand) - not to mention the fact that these three crops show up in almost every form of processed food. So, I ask - is processed food good for the environment? That could take me a week to supply information of how this effects are water systems, land, animals, and air. My point? Be fully informed if you want to wage a war - you all make me embarrassed to be a vegetarian sometimes!

I concur! I too am a vegetarian. So many of the facts that misinformed vegetarians with respect to farming animals and the carbon footprint are based on conventional, commercial farms...and I use the word "farm" here loosely. As I consider them to be more of a factory than a farm. I am sure that if one were to look into stats on organic, free-range, pasture raised animals being treated the way nature intended we would see a whole different set of facts.

Wow - I have also had some heated discussions on this very topic in my own vegetarian community. I know the die-hards. They are so die-hard that they dont always know the facts. Not to o mention they cook toxic which elinates the benefits of a vegetarian diet. Like cooking everything in olive oil at high heat temperatures and eatting a lot of soy based products.
