I keep hearing such mixed reviews about the so-called Slow Food Movement. When I looked into my local chapter, all I found was expensive dinners I could join, but nothing in relation to food education. What is the true meaning of Slow Food - is is just to promote upscale restaurants and foodie indulgences? We need more food education - not food pushers!

Slow Food is about food that is good, clean and fair. The food is good because is naturally delicious food, clean because it is grown and harvested with methods that have a positive impact on our environment and fair because Slow Food believes in providing access to all regardless of income. Food is a universal right rather than a privilege. Many chapters throughout the US have programs dedicated to the education of sustainable food. I would encourage you to look into volunteering with your local chapter and begin educational programs that may not already be in place.
